An Unusual request - Model Wanted

Following on from my post earlier this week about Yan To's live garment creation during London Fashion Week.... he's decided that he wants to ditch the mannequin and create his piece straight onto a real life human being! So, he's on the hunt for a fashion lover to take centre stage in this innovative, exciting project.

The human mannequin needs to be patient and outgoing as Yan and his team of three will construct, pin and stitch directly onto her, creating a truly unique piece of his SS12 collection.

It's not all glamour though, there'll be lots of standing and quite possibly a few stray pin situations too!
Not put off yet?
Then read on...

Are you:
  • Size 8-10
  • 5' 6" and above
  • Able to stand for long periods
  • Happy to stand in a store window all day
  • Free this Saturday 19th February between midday and 6.30pm in London
The finished garment will take it's place in an art meets fashion exhibition at Layers and the human mannequin will go home with a piece from Yan To's current collection as a thank you.

If you'd like to be considered please email - press [at] yan-to [dot] com with your height, dress size, age and a photograph.

Yan To at London Fashion Week

During London Fashion Week my uber talented other half will be creating one of his unique pieces live in Layers, Conduit Street.  Stop by on Saturday February 19th from midday to witness his organic approach to garment construction first hand.

I'm obviously biased, but his collection is a true work of art, made even more unique due to the fact that he's self taught. From ad man to designer in the space of just one year. He shy's away from sketching preferring to think through a design or to create straight onto a form. His pieces are wearable, individual and innovative, using common materials in a totally unique way. He's created his label with a unique point of difference, something that he believes to be essential. Fresh and level headed his views set him out as modern fashion rebel.

His debut SS11 collection is available in Harrods of Knightsbridge now.

Are you a fashion blogger or writer that would like seasonal collection updates? If this is you, please email your details to; press [at] byyanto [dot] com or leave a comment with your url.

My 2010 in Pictures - win a CyberMummy11 ticket

It's been quite a year for me, first CyberMummy10 and then Blogladesh and the UN with Save the Children. I wanted to say thank you for all of the help and support from you, my friends and fellow bloggers. There were some dark times - especially in Bangladesh but what we achieved is set to change the face of charity campaigning for good. You were all a part of that.

To say thank you, I'm giving away a ticket to CyberMummy11 - but you do have to work for it!

To be in with a chance of winning you need to join in the 'Your 2010 in Pictures' meme. Your entry can be a single picture that sums up 2010 for you or a montage like mine. Do your post then come back and add it to the Linky below.

Here is my 2010.....

Entry closes at midnight (GMT) on 10/01/11 and a winner will be chosen by my trusty assistant and me over a packet of biscuits and a pot of tea.
The prize is a ticket to CyberMummy11.

The Gallery....... Men

Hello and welcome to this week's The Gallery.... the lovely Tara at Sticky Fingers is leading us forward this weeks the theme of.... Men.
I found this easy on the surface but I have so many pictures of the men in my life that it actually turned into a race against time.
I absolutely LOVE this picture of my husband. It makes me both melt and brim with the pride that he chooses me.
It is kind of cheating cause I didn't take the pic...but he is my man and if I could have been there to take it I would (does that count?).
I can't stop there cause there are other 'men' in my life..... my boys.
No1 son will be 20 this year. That scares me and freaks me out nearly as much as it scares me and freaks me out that TotallySonny will be 10 this year. Your time as a parent really does fly by.
My boys.....

Pride.....

I feel really sad that Yan has had to go it totally alone with his collection but every time he has a shoot or an interview we can't find anyone to look after the children.
It's an on going theme and on the lat day of school before the Easter holiday he was asked to give a presentation for the iconic Sketchbook magazine at their pop up store in London.
Had the children not been finishing early and if Betty hadn't had a dance rehearsal then I would have been able to accompany him. But it's just the two of us - with no family to fall back on.
But I have just come across this editorial about his presentation and I feel so proud that I wanted to share it with you all.

Full collection images can be seen on Yan's site Yan-To.com

I have been pulling together my review of the year post for the last couple of days.... but I'm still only at May! So when I saw this post from Rosie Scribble my Blythe sister, who had nicked the idea from Not Super Mum who nicked it from ThatGirl, I thought - what the hell.....
So please enjoy my personal mood board of inspiration for 2010.

Amazing press...and amazing news..

I didn't let you all know last week that my fabulous hubby has been accepted to show at February's ON/OFF. This is a huge, big, massive deal for him as On/Off are known for their pioneering approach and support.
It will be so exciting to be a part of London Fashion Week - we just need to find a label for ModelGirl to walk for and then the whole experience will be complete!
And today, he has a brilliant piece of coverage in the fashion & style bible Dazed

Well done hon. You deserve it. xx

My Perfect Partner

I know that it isn't really the done thing to gloat about the good times but as I was interviewed by a journalist today for a feature called "My Perfect Partner", I thought that if there was ever a time to come out loud and proud - then it's now.

I had a troubled past, lots of people do. But the day that I walked into my hubby's office to pitch my pr services to him I knew that he was the man for me. My saviour if you like. Luckily for me he felt the same way - thought he has since admitted (on camera to a lady filming from the BBC, thanks), that he thought I was a bit weird. You see I wasn't dressed in usual business attire but lets just call that PR license.

I won the pitch and the rest as they say is history. In January we will have been married for ten whole years. I find that quite difficult to get my head around if the truth be told, when you are young ten years sounds like a lifetime but the reality is that those years have simply flown by.

Three beautiful babies and a number of business ventures have kept us busy whilst allowing us both to work from home, together.

Whilst we have had our issues they are few and far between and resolving them has just made us stronger.

He came to a crossroads work wise at the end of last year and with the kids and my support we gave him that push to strike out and take a chance on a career move that would fulfill him.

So from ad man to designer. His first collection produced, photographed and ready to go. It's an exciting time for us all. His collection is stunning and I am so proud of what he has achieved.
Due to the normalities of everyday life (and school holidays) I couldn't be with him at his shoot last week and I know that he could have done with my support but I also had the confidence that he could do it alone. I was right, his pics are amazing. His styling spot on and his choice of models perfect.
This morning after I dropped the bambino's off for their first day back at school we had a full on full collection styling session. Dresses, shoes, jewellery, dresses, jackets, more dresses....
How many women are lucky enough to get to properly styled by their hubby?

The result of this mornings styling was a new dress for me. Just me - a one off and I am excited beyond words. The dress is the business and I will be flaunting it for the world to see in the shoot for the Express article.

So, the journalist asked... "Why is your partner perfect?"

"Simple" I replied. "He is my best friend in the whole wide world."

Collection information coming soon...
